Dru Yoga

NEW YEAR – NEW YOU

WITH Carole Dru Yoga

This New Year, why not try Yoga (over 50s Yoga starting in January 2023), make new friends and get yourself more flexible and relaxed? We caught up with Carole to find out more.

Q: When and why did you start yoga yourself?

Ans: It all started after I had my first baby 26 years ago. I had what we now know is post-natal anxiety and also returned to work as a Head of Science in a very rough secondary school in Poole. I needed to calm down. Yoga did the trick!

Q: what made you decide to teach yoga?

Ans: I hit a wall of difficulties several years ago, my Mother’s death, a very poorly daughter, a bullying boss and a difficult divorce. My weekly yoga class was literally a lifeline. After attending a Dru Yoga Dance weekend in Snowdonia I started training with the Dru Yoga school. When I was made redundant from my teaching post, approaching age 50, I decided to rebuild and transform my life with a move to Suffolk close to dear friends and to start Carole Dru Yoga. It was amazing! Suffolk is the ‘gift that keep on giving’. I now enjoy outdoor swimming, stand up paddle boarding and help at The Riding for the Disabled as well as having a wonderful yoga business. Everybody wants more!

Q: What is special about Dru Yoga?

Ans: It’s truly magical and suitable for all bodies. The best bit is we move to music and enjoy fun, lively warm ups before the yoga gets started. No! the best bit is the Energy Block Release Sequence, which flows with the breath through revitalising, simple yet potent, flowing movements. No! the best bit is the 15 minute guided deep relaxation at the end. This really improves your sleep. Basically, it’s fun, you feel great after and you sleep better.

Q: We know you offer a fabulous Over 50s class on Thursdays at The Coddenham Centre; what else do you do?

Ans: I teach on Monday evenings at Christchurch Hall in Needham Market and I also work at Riverhills Health Club. On Friday mornings we have an idyllic session of Walking Yoga, outdoors at Needham Lake. The Coddenham Centre is such a gorgeous, well organised venue, I love to hold afternoon workshops here too at weekends from time to time. These deepen your yoga practice around a theme, with meditations, breathwork and Yoga Dance sequences. Because of the wonderful underfloor heating there, I also hold my Restorative Yoga sessions there too. This session of passive stretching reduces inflammation and the effects of stress. One client said to me, ‘ My whole body feels ironed out’.
